Attacks of November 13: trial, victims… 9 years later, a still gaping wound

This November 13, 2024 marks the ninth anniversary of the attacks in and Saint-Denis, in the Paris region. If the trial convicted one of the commando terrorists and several people linked to the attack, the tragedy deeply marked the country.

On Friday, November 13, 2015, 130 people were killed during several terrorist attacks carried out simultaneously in the Paris region. A look back at the facts, 9 years later.

The trauma

At the Stade de , the Bataclan and in bistros in the 10th and 11th arrondissements… terrorists killed 130 people and injured hundreds on the evening of November 13. 486 cases of treatment linked to the attacks were recorded in Parisian hospitals.

According to the Ministry of the Interiorthe terrible assault began at 9:20 p.m., when a first terrorist triggered his explosive belt at the Stade de France. Then, 5 minutes later on rue Bichat in Paris, shots were fired at local residents, before on the other side of the city a second terrorist detonated his explosive belt a stone's throw from the France-Germany meeting. Then, rue Charronne, more shots. A third belt of explosives was then detonated on Boulevard Voltaire.

At 9:49 p.m., three terrorists entered the Bataclan. A few minutes later, a new explosion rang out at the Stade de France and a fourth shooting was triggered on Boulevard Beaumarchais. Finally, at 10:04 p.m., the first Bac police officer entered the Bataclan and shot dead one of the terrorists. He will be joined by the Raid and the BIS two hours later.

The trial

In total, 20 people were in the dock for having been involved in the preparation of these attacks. Among them, 12 faced life imprisonment. The best known of them is the only survivor of the terrorist commando: Salah Abdeslam. He was sentenced to an irreducible life sentence. In other words, he will never be able to ask for a reduced sentence.

Initially incarcerated in Belgium, where he was arrested, he was transferred to France in February 2024 to be imprisoned in the Paris region.
