The former coach of the XV of France Marc Lièvremont, here in 2019 in Toulouse, was “very afraid” for his life.
UNUSUAL – A situation that makes you dizzy. Marc Lièvremont, former French rugby international and coach of the French XV between 2008 and 2011, remained clinging to a tree 500 meters from the ground for several hours after a paragliding accident in Reunion this Monday, October 11.
The man who is now a consultant for Canal+ had left to make a flight to the town of Saint-Joseph, in the south of the island. But he ran into a tree which tore his sail. In an interview with Parisian, he confides having had “very scared” of what could happen to him. “The branch could break at any moment. I was stuck. I stayed like that for almost three hours.” he reveals.
In a publication on its social networks, the Reunion gendarmerie recounted the unfolding of the rescue of the former third line. The aerial section of the gendarmerie (SAG) and the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) noted that Marc Lièvremont was “in bad shape”too close to the wall to be “helicoptered”. So they had to rappel down to retrieve the paraglider and climb back up.

” Not sure “ to do paragliding again in the future
Marc Lièvremont considers having had “very lucky”. “It’s exceptional to be here, alive. I could have ripped myself open on the tree, rolled down the slope, crashed.”he cries to the Parisianbefore reassuring about his physical condition: “I have almost nothing, just a few scratches. I thank the rescuers who saved me”.
Concerning paragliding, Marc Lièvremont considers having “burned a joker” which he may no longer have in the future. “I'm still in shock because it only happened to me twenty-four hours ago but I'm not sure I'll ever do it again,” he concludes.
