Firefighters carried out an exercise near the Jeanne-d'Arc bridge this Tuesday, November 12 and hit a pedestrian with one of their vehicles. The man died instantly, according to initial information.
A pedestrian died this Tuesday, November 12 in Rouen, during an exercise by the Seine-Maritime firefighters, BFM Normandie learned from Sdis, confirming information from France Bleu.
The 82-year-old man was hit by an emergency vehicle during a training maneuver on the right bank at the Jeanne-d'Arc bridge, around 3:30 p.m., adds Rouen public prosecutor Sébastien Gallois.
An autopsy required
According to initial information, the man died instantly. An investigation into the charge of involuntary manslaughter while driving a vehicle was opened in order to determine the circumstances of the maneuver and the accident. She was handed over to the national police.
An autopsy of the victim was also required. The first checks were made on site on the driver, who was in good standing, assures the prosecution. The latter as well as the two other members of the crew present will all be “quickly questioned by the police”, assures the prosecution.
The vehicle in question was placed under seal and stored for possible future use.
The national police and the public prosecutor's office attended the scene after the accident.
