Almeria in turn under water, new torrential rains expected from Valencia to Malaga

Torrential rains fell on Monday, almost 70 liters of water per square meter in less than an hour, according to the emergency coordination center.

On social media, impressive images of raging rivers bursting their banks and flooded roads were shared en masse.

The situation is not expected to improve in the coming days. A new cold drop, or Dana (for depresion aislada in niveles alto, or isolated depression at high levels in French) descends on the Iberian Peninsula.

150 mm of rain in 24 hours

The Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued an alert bulletin this Tuesday, November 12, at midday, to warn that the meteorological phenomenon could persist until Friday, November 15. “It is very likely that very heavy and persistent rains, locally torrential, will occur, accompanied by storms and maritime storms in the Balearic Islands and on the Mediterranean coast and, from Thursday, also in Western Andalusia”, can we read. 150 mm of rain is expected in the space of 24 hours in the south of the Balearic archipelago.

Showers are also expected to be very heavy between Barcelona and Almería. The Valencia region, already devastated by the floods at the end of October, is expecting “very heavy” rain, warns Aemet.
