The Queens will briefly return to public duties on Tuesday but her schedule this week has been cut short as she continues her recovery from a chest infection.
Camilla, 77, fell ill after returning from a trip to Australia and Samoa with the King.
She pulled out of her engagements last week on doctors’ advice and did not attend the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday or the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph.
• What are the risks of a chest infection at the Queen’s age?
The Queen had been resting at her Wiltshire home of Ray Mill but was travelling to London on Tuesday morning to host a reception linked to the Booker Prize.
Given her ongoing recovery, a decision has been taken that the Queen will not join the King when he attends the Gladiator II film premiere on Wednesday.
The changes to the Queen’s programme are said to be a pragmatic approach to ensuring Camilla’s recovery.
She had been due to join the King for a Coronation Food Project event on Thursday when Charles marks his 76th birthday. A decision was taken last week that she would also miss this event in the interest of focusing on her recovery.
It is understood that the Queen’s full return to duties will remain under review.
A royal source said: “There is no issue of concern here beyond doctors’ guidance that as Her Majesty the Queen returns to public duty after a nasty bug, we should find ways to alleviate pressure on the diary to minimise any chance of a setback. These adaptations are therefore simply some pragmatic programme concessions to lighten the load a little for this week.”
