Ravichandran Ashwin’s new auctioneer avatar ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, starts bidding wars for KL Rahul, David Warner and other stars

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was spotted selling himself in a mock auction. Notably, the IPL 2025 super auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Ashwin held a simulated auction on his YouTube channel before to the bidding event, when a number of fans and pundits placed bids for players from the 10 teams.

At the mock auction, it was seen that prominent players like Jos Buttler, David Warner, Trent Boult, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul, and including Ashwin himself were being auctioned. Even the bidding war between Delhi and Kolkata, which attracted bids of over 15 crore, was started by star player KL Rahul. In the event’s trailer, Ashwin introduced the participants and declared that he was the first guy in Indian television history to auction himself.

“First time in Indian Television history, the first person to auction himself. Generally, I get very excited about IPL auctions. For the first time, in our channel, we have conducted mock auctions inviting a lot of people. Many cricket fans, analysts, people who’ve been following IPL for many years, we’ve finished conducting a very competitive auctions with these people. Extremely entertaining! people who came to participate in our channel picked really good teams,” said Ashwin on his Youtube Channel.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Of the 1,574 players who registered for the mega auction, 409 were overseas and 1165 were from India. There are only 204 spots available across ten franchises since each team is allowed to assemble a squad of 25 players. Punjab Kings hold the largest purse amount of INR 110.5 crore going into the auction, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have INR 83 crore.

On the contrary, Rajasthan Royals have the lowest purse amount at INR 41 crore, followed by Mumbai Indians (INR 45 crore) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (INR 45 crore). The bidding event will see a number of well-known players, including Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, James Anderson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jofra Archer, and Kagiso Rabada, among others, go under the hammer as teams compete to include them in their squads.
