Urgent… The Bar Association suspends the open strike in the courts – Today 24

Al-Youm 24 learned that the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco decided to suspend the open strike, during its extraordinary office meeting this evening.

A source told the website that the open strike, which the association will announce in a statement tonight, has been suspended. This comes after the start of the dialogue with the Ministry of Justice today, Monday, in implementation of the outcomes of the agreement that occurred between the two parties the day before yesterday, Saturday, through parliamentary mediation.

A joint communiqué by the Ministry of Justice and the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco, issued the day before yesterday, Saturday, announced the agreement to “institutionalize dialogue between the Ministry of Justice and the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco,” as well as “forming thematic committees between the two parties to study the proposed draft laws.”

The communication explained that “at the invitation of the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committees of the House of Representatives and Councilors, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Justice and the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco at the headquarters of the House of Representatives, headed by the two heads of the two aforementioned committees, and in the presence of the Minister of Justice, accompanied by central administration officials, and the President of the Association of Bar Associations.” Lawyers in Morocco, accompanied by captains, as well as some parliamentarians.”

The communication added, “After a frank and constructive discussion that lasted several hours, covering all the issues, during which the Minister of Justice stressed the importance and status of the legal profession and its pivotal position within the justice system, as well as the importance of the participatory approach in implementing reform programmes, including those related to the legislative field, as he stressed.” Mr. President of the Association, for the latter’s active contribution and cooperation with the Ministry of Justice.

According to the joint statement, “During this meeting, a number of points were discussed concerning draft laws related to justice and the legal profession and its issues, after which the two parties decided to agree to institutionalize the dialogue between the Ministry of Justice and the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco.”

It was also decided to “form thematic committees between the two parties to study the proposed draft laws according to an agreed upon agenda, and document the work of these committees with records that can be referred to when necessary, in addition to opening dialogue on the remaining issues that the Minister pledged to accompany the relevant authorities.”

It was also decided to “start holding the first meetings of the thematic committees, starting on Monday, November 11, 2024”, which was the meeting that was held on Monday morning. The joint communication also noted “the parliamentary initiative regarding holding this meeting, and the sincere will and spirit of responsibility expressed by the two parties in serving the issues of Justice.
