Bad performance from Carlos Alcaraz, who will now have to overcome Rublev and Zverev if he wants to try to reach the semi-finals. The Spaniard, who apparently wasn’t feeling well due to a severe cold and some fever, played more than usual, alternating some valuable touches, few of them, with disasters that can only be explained by his poor physical condition. Carlitos wasn’t too lucky either, as he wasted 5 break points at the start of the match which gave confidence to Ruud, someone who arrived in Turin without asking for anything from the tournament, considering the last four defeats in a row and the eight in nine matches against medium level players. The Norwegian, however, is an intelligent boy, he quickly understood that it would be enough for him not to do anything extraordinary and avoid making mistakes to collect the Spaniard’s gifts, which came in abundance. The first set even ended 6-1 and only the fact that Casper is in bad shape allowed us to witness an almost balanced second set. “Almost” because from 5-2 Alcaraz lost five games in a row and the match, with Ruud almost in disbelief.
These Turin Finals continue to fail to inspire, and it is difficult to think that it is a coincidence that they are perhaps the least “noble” ever played so far. Tonight it will be Zverev and Rublev’s turn, not Laver and McEnroe. But this passes the convent.
