The meteorological agency Météo-France has placed seven departments on yellow alert for the risk of snow and ice this Tuesday, November 12.
Winter is already upon us. While temperatures will be falling this week and close to seasonal norms, seven departments have been placed on yellow alert by Météo-France, for snow and ice in the south of the country.
In detail, the departments concerned by this vigilance are as follows: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes- Maritimes.
Snowfall at altitude
In the border Alps, the PACA region and Corsica, the morning promises to be unsettled with an overcast sky and sometimes heavy precipitation, sometimes stormy near the coast. On the Alpine terrain, snowfall will appear from 1,200 m altitude, whitening the ground from 1,300 m.
In the afternoon, the rains will spread towards Languedoc, sometimes intense and stormy on the coast. On the other hand, in the east of PACA the precipitation will ease, the snowfall in the Southern Alps from 1,100 to 1,200 m will also weaken. In eastern Corsica, stormy showers will increase. “In the Pyrenees and their foothills, there too the sky will be very cloudy from the morning with lasting precipitation, snowy from 1,000 m, with a nice layer of snow expected from 1,500 m,” Météo-France said in his report card.
In the rest of France, conditions will be more variable. From the north-eastern quarter of the country and Normandy to Centre-Val de Loire and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a rainy passage circulates in the morning, with a little snow on the Massif Central around 1,000 to 1,100 m, while that elsewhere the weather will be calm with clearings.
In terms of temperatures, the minimums will range from 3 to 8°C in general and from 8 to 12°C near the Mediterranean. The maximums will range from 13 to 17°C near the Mediterranean, up to 16 to 20°C in Corsica, from 9 to 13°C near the English Channel, as well as from Brittany to the Pyrenees, they will peak between 7 and 11°C elsewhere.
