“King Denzel”, “high class”, “the goat”, “a legend”, “a superb person”… Compliments are raining down on the social network X to salute the unexpected gesture of Denzel Washington, just before the start of his interview on TF1's 8 p.m. news, Sunday November 10. The Hollywood star came to present his latest film, “Gladiator II”, broadcast from November 13 in cinemas.
In the sequence, we see Anne-Claire Coudray welcoming the multi-awarded actor to her set. And as Denzel Washington takes his seat, the journalist points out to him that the control room is abnormally full for a weekend. “You know, on Sundays, there are usually not so many people,” she tells him.
“Why today?” », asks the 69-year-old actor to whom she replies: “They love you, I think they love you”. Without hesitating for a single second, Denzel Washington gets up from his stool to greet the people present in the control room. A nice surprise that fans of the actor will not soon forget.
In front of director Ridley Scott's camera, Denzel Washington plays Macrinus, a rich Machiavellian merchant, who seems far from who he really is. “He wants to kill everyone, sleep with everyone, and above all dominate,” summed up the actor to Anne-Claire Coudray.
The star of “Man on Fire”, “American Gangster” and “Training Day” also confided his pride in playing in a film of such scope. “I have never participated in such a big project,” he explained, even though the budget for this highly anticipated blockbuster would be over 250 million euros.
“It was incredible. The team recreated Rome (…), and not just on a green background. It helps a lot for an actor. You do your job, you put on your costume, and you arrive in this set and all you see is Rome,” he added, visibly still impressed by the scale of the shoot.
