On Monday, November 11, the Court of First Instance in Rabat ruled to convict the journalist, Hamid El Mahdaoui, of one and a half years in prison, and awarded civil compensation to the Minister of Justice in the amount of 150 million centimes.

Al-Mahdawi, director of the “Badil Info” website, was prosecuted due to the complaint in which Justice Minister Abdel-Latif Wehbe accuses him of “broadcasting and distributing false allegations and facts in order to defame and slander people” and “public insult” according to Articles 443, 444, and 447 of the Criminal Code.

Last February, the National Judicial Police Squad in Casablanca summoned El Mahdaoui for investigation against the backdrop of the same complaint filed by Abdel Latif Wehbe, in his capacity as Minister of Justice. For Justice, Abdel Latif Wehbe, whose defense demanded financial compensation of 10 million dirhams.
