With the exit from Reuben Amorim heading towards the new professional challenge at Manchester United, scheduled for November 11th, Sporting has not yet officially announced the name of his successor. Still, there is some speculation surrounding João Pereira
According to reports, the successor to Rúben Amorim will be a figure already well known in the Leo universe: the current coach of team B. Like Amorim, João Pereira trained at Benfica and also left Braga in the middle of the season to join Sporting – at the time, in 2009/10, still as a player. João Pereira retired from football in 20/21 and immediately moved to the bench, with the under-23s. Just like Amorim, he can be in charge of the Lions’ main team without having yet completed the coaching coursewhose diploma he should receive in December.
On the eve of taking the reins of the current national champions, some profiles supporting the Club, on social media, reported a curious detail. “João Pereira deactivated his social networks!”, and added, “Coincidence that it is at a time when we are approaching his announcement as coach? I don’t think so…He is following in Amorim’s footsteps!”
The truth is that, although it has not yet been made official, the fans await an official announcement of the Green and White Club this Sunday, the 10th, or on Monday, the 11th, when Amorim will officially leave the technical command of the team.
O first game João Pereira as Sporting coach should be, apparently, against Amarante, in the Portuguese Cup – an opponent from League 3, apparently accessible, despite leading their series. The toughest tests come later: Sporting hosts Arsenal in a Champions League, where they are well on their way to qualifying directly for the next phase.
