Google Gemini AI app shows up on iOS App Store ahead of launch

Google is reportedly testing a new standalone “Google Gemini” app, which may soon be available for iOS users. The app has been spotted on the Apple App Store, offering direct access to Gemini Live—a feature that is currently unavailable on iOS. This comes after the broader rollout of Google Gemini Live on Android devices beginning this past August.

A Reddit user, u/lostshenanigansshared screenshots of the app in action, showcasing features that are not yet available in the existing Google app integration.

One of the key features is Gemini Live, which enables users to interact with the AI assistant through voice commands. Currently, Gemini Live is only available on Android devices, making this potential iOS release a significant development.

Limited Availability and Beta Test in Select Regions

At present, only one user in the Philippines has been able to access the app, and it is not available in most regions, including the US. This suggests that Google is running a beta test in specific locations, allowing the company to gather user feedback and address any issues before a wider rollout.

The standalone app would offer iPhone users a more direct and streamlined AI assistant experience. However, it remains unclear whether this new app will replace the current integration within the Google app or if both options will coexist. Additionally, it’s uncertain which iPhone models and iOS versions will fully support the Live Activities feature.

App Version and Future Updates

The app was first launched a week ago, with version 1.2024.4330807, and was updated to v1.2024.4330809. Google has not officially announced the standalone app, so its full release date is still unknown.

However, the leak indicates that Google is actively exploring ways to offer a richer Gemini experience for iOS users. If the beta proves successful, iPhone users could soon have access to a powerful new AI assistant tool.
