‘Here to win’ – Luke Littler sends message to rivals after brutal six minute victory in Grand Slam of Darts debut

Luke Littler had a Grand Slam of Darts debut to remember, and he’s warned his rivals he’s looking to go all the way.

The 17-year-old thrashed Keane Barry 5-0 in the first round on Saturday, taking just six minutes on stage to seal victory.

The British darts sensation has won two PDC major titles already – the 2024 Premier League of Darts and the 2024 World Series of Darts.

But Littler says he’s aiming to add another major to his growing list of accolades, as he sent a warning to his rivals after his blistering win.

Asked on Sky Sports what he did in the build up to his electric performance, Littler laughed: “I’ve been practicing!”

He continued: “Obviously my major tournaments [record] isn’t the best record, so I just focused on tonight [to] make a statement.

“I’m here to win.”

He raced into a 3-0 lead with a 14-darter, 12-darter and then an 11-darter.

Barry had no reply as Littler cleaned up with little trouble, ending the match with an average of 112.16.

The Grand Slam of Darts starts with group matches that are best of nine legs.

After three games, the top two in each group qualify for the knock-out stage.

And Littler says he’s looking forward to being involved in that format as he compared it to his other sporting love, football.

“Just [like] watching the football, the Champions League in the group stage!

“Leading up to it I’ve been practicing well, I’m just going to enjoy it.

“But I’m really glad tonight.”

Asked if he wants to top his group, he said: “Yeah I want to top the group. Everyone wants to.

“I know there’s a little bonus for finishing top as well.

“But I’ll get out the group stage, then I’ll focus on the first of 10 legs and then hopefully go on and on.

“But I’m here.”
