Ruben Amorim’s strange goodbye: he left things at Sporting’s academy, couldn’t say goodbye to his employees, but his heart remains red – Stars

This is the last time that Sporting fans will be able to see Ruben Amorim, 39 years old, leading the green and white team. A painful farewell for Sporting fans and for the coach himself who, despite being hours away from realizing his dream of becoming the man in charge of Manchester United, has a heart full of good memories.

At Sporting’s pre-game press conference against Braga, Ruben confessed that it was strange to leave the Sporting Academy gate for the last time. “It was a strange feeling because I’m not going back”starts by confessing. Nostalgic, he reveals that he wasn’t even able to tidy up the office where he has all his things, something he will delegate to someone he trusts. “I haven’t packed the office but they’ll send me things, I’m not much of one to say goodbye to people. It’s strange having driven to the gym every day for over four years and knowing I’m not going back. But I leave with the feeling of duty fulfilled, we experienced unforgettable things.”

Known for his sincerity and for not running away from journalists’ questions, when asked if his heart still belongs to Benfica, he doesn’t lie. “The club we were born into is always the club we were born into, no matter what happens, but I have affection and will always support Sporting.”
