Thibau Nys beams for the first time in a white sweater (and soon also white pants?): “Can’t promise that it won’t come”

The honeymoon period can begin for Thibau Nys. The brand new European champion can try on his star jersey for the first time in Lokeren. And that clearly made the eyes of the 21-year-old rider of the Baloise-Trek Lions sparkle. “It’s enjoyable, yes,” he smiled.

He was happy as a little child with his European title.

Not only for the sheer prestige, the fact that he was able to fit a new white tunic – “with custom stickers and overshoes” – also made Thibau Nys beam.

“Yes, it is quite enjoyable,” Nys smiles just before the cross in Lokeren. “Although it is of course still a struggle on the bike, isn’t it.”

He already had the white hair, but just like many champions who are allowed to ride in white, the white pants dilemma was already on Nys’s mind.

“I opted for black pants today, but I can’t promise it won’t happen,” he winked – after which he dutifully turned the focus back to the cross.

“The focus has not gone away, no. I have had a good training week and I think I am ready for it. I start with the same uncertainty as always, but I can now fall back on something nice. I am especially looking forward to cross.”
