Alice Weidel normally keeps her private life strictly under wraps. But now she has made a surprising statement about it at an event in the Zurich Congress Center, as the Tagesanzeiger reports.
At first there was a lot of talk about politics. While Weidel criticized our neighbor’s situation, she praised Switzerland:
“Switzerland is still a safe haven for Germans. The citizen wants a job. He wants to start a family. At some point he might want to have his own house, his own apartment, a car, a good education for his children. He wants safety on the streets.”
But all of this is no longer the case for many people in Germany, says Weidel.
“Sarah, I love you!”
So far, so normal. After around 30 minutes, moderator Reto Brennwald then asks that she is with a Swiss woman: “You have two children. She has roots in Sri Lanka and is dark-skinned. What kind of tensions arise in such a situation?”
After a short moment, Weidel says: “I have to say, I don’t see skin colors. I have a wonderful wife, we have been together for 15 years, she is here tonight,” said Weidel. And then she says to the audience: “Sarah, I love you!”, followed by a big round of applause.
She then explains what impact her work as a top politician has on her relationships and what restrictions it brings with it: “We can no longer spontaneously go to the restaurant without being afraid that I will get hit over the head. Or go dancing spontaneously, unfortunately that’s over for me.”
The two met before Weidel went into politics. “I am incredibly grateful to her for taking part in this. She sometimes has a completely different opinion than me.” Weidel’s girlfriend always suffers from all the attention, which also bothers Weidel:
“We would both have liked to have been treated much more calmly and fairly as a couple.” (ome)
