Alan Shearer has said the goalless draw on Saturday between Everton and West Ham United was “awful” and he resented having to watch it a second time.

The Toffees took a point home from the London Stadium [9 November] but the game itself was a largely forgettable affair.

Shearer had seen the contest live, which failed to yield a goal and was listed dead-last on the evening’s BBC Match of the Day coverage [9 November, 1:16:04].

He said live on air, as the camera panned to yawning supporters: “I’m not sure too many people have stayed up to watch this again, because I’ve had to watch it again and it wasn’t pleasant.

“It was an awful game. I was [yawning] as well to be honest. It was that bad.

“It’s a much better point for Everton than it is for West Ham.”

Everton take a beneficial point back to Merseyside

For all the drabness of the game in East London, Everton as Shearer outlined will be the happier of the two with the point.

Jordan Pickford’s impressive action late on in the game managed to keep his side a share of the spoils, with the defence now featuring a certain Jarrad Branthwaite again.

It may not have been the ruthless performance some were hoping for against an out-of-sorts West Ham outfit, but on another day it could have been worse.

The point takes Sean Dyche’s team into double figures for points, four above the drop zone heading into the last international break until March.

Brentford are the next visitors to Goodison Park before a busy December schedule.

In other Everton news, Jason Cundy has accused the club of having limited ambition.
