from Liège to Calabria, a new life for Lilly and her family

When we think of Italy, we think of Tuscany, Puglia, Rome, Venice, Sicily… but rarely Calabria. Yet a magnificent region, full of tourist potential.

Lilly Rumoro understood this well. This Liégeoise gave up everything to return to live in the land of her ancestors, in 2019.

With her husband, Manu, and their two adorable daughters, they bought a house and opened a beautiful bed and breakfast in Campo San Giovoanni, in the municipality of Amantea. A superb place which literally has its feet in the water, since the turquoise sea stops… at the edge of their terrace.

On the horizon, we see Stromboli, located 90 km away. And even, on a clear day, Etna. Here, we eat on the terrace almost all year round. When the sun rises or sets, the spectacle is simply sumptuous.

“A different tourism”

Lilly and her husband are true entrepreneurs. And over the years they have become perfect ambassadors for Calabria. “With this B&B, we want to bring to the region this entrepreneurial spirit which is sometimes lacking here. There are many things to do, particularly to develop tourism. But we want to promote a different type of tourism: we want to favor something more natural, more qualitative, more original, which mixes both tradition and modernity,” argues Lilly.

“Here, the weather is nice all the time, all the seasons are beautiful. Prices are affordable. It is an authentic region. When you come here, you don’t feel like a tourist, you feel at home.”

When she starts talking about Calabria, flames shine in her eyes. “Calabria is my childhood, my roots, and that’s where my values come from: simplicity, work, family, humility, strength of character. These are things that I claim,” explains Lilly, to whom Adrien Joveneau dedicates the first episode of the new season of “Belges du Bout du Monde”, to be seen this Sunday at 1:40 p.m. on the front page, just after the news. Not to be missed!
