Bourita represents Morocco at the “Russia Africa Conference”… and Putin praises the African continent

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated, in his speech addressed to the participants in the plenary session of the first Ministerial Conference for the Partnership between Russia and Africa, that “the countries of the African continent have a great reputation at the global level.”

The Kingdom of Morocco is represented at this conference, held in Sochi, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, who is expected to hold official discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

Putin added in his speech, delivered on his behalf by his Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, that “African countries are doing great work to resolve outstanding issues at the international level,” indicating that his country “seeks to build friendly relations with African partners on foundations that contribute to a multipolar world.”

The Russian President explained that “this new world adheres to the rule of international law, and rejects practices of control and domination, and sanctions.”

Putin promised that “Moscow will be committed to providing all forms of assistance to various African countries, especially in the areas of combating extremism and terrorism, promoting sustainable development, and providing solutions to food crises…”

According to the Russian authorities, this session constitutes an opportunity to discuss international issues and the agenda set by the leaders of the countries participating in the two previous summits.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, “There is great satisfaction with the results reached so far, especially the important numbers for trade exchange, which need to be doubled further.”

Lavrov attributed this to “the continuation of Western sanctions on his country” due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, adding: “Nevertheless, we are determined to discuss new ways of cooperation far from the existing pressures.”

The Russian diplomat added that today’s meeting, at the end of which it is expected that an agreed-upon final declaration will be issued, contains specific points that pave the way for the third summit between Russia and Africa.
