How to follow the start of the Vendée Globe this Sunday

The legendary navigation race will start this afternoon for around three months of navigation. The start will be broadcast on television.

In a few hours, the cannon will be fired to mark the start of the Vendée Globe. The legendary race will start for its 10th edition. This time, the public is present en masse, a way of making up for the very discreet arrival of the last edition which ended in the middle of Covid four years ago.

This Sunday, November 10, RTBF will rebroadcast the start of the race, live, from 12:30 p.m. The kick-off must be given at 1 p.m. for the 40 sailors who are involved in this “ Everest of the seas ».

This year is special since the sailor Denis Van Weynbergh will start from Les Sables-d’Olonne, the only Belgian in this race this year. He is one of the 15 “ bizuths » of this edition, that is to say, those who make their first “ Vendée “. Less novice, Yannick Bestaven, former winner of the race, puts his title on the line for this “ Vendée Globe 2024 ».

They will have to cover 24,300 theoretical miles, or 45,000 km, to be covered without outside help. One last crew member is with them on the boat and will have to throw themselves into the sea four minutes before the gun goes off so that the skipper is alone at the starting line. The race lasts approximately three months.
