“A world without men”… After Trump’s victory, the “4B” movement appeals to American women

“No more sex”, “no more marriage” or even “no more childbirth”. After Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election, many Internet users, unhappy with the vote, called on American women to boycott men and join the “4B” feminist movement as a sign of protest.

“Girls, we need to start looking at the 4B movement like women in South Korea and giving America a drastic decline in the birth rate. No marriage, no childbirth, no dating men, no sex with men. We cannot let these men have the last word… we must fight back,” a user posted this Wednesday on the social network X.

Very quickly, the message went viral, and online searches on the subject surged across the Atlantic, revealing a dedicated hashtag on social networks.

Protect yourself from gender-based violence and discrimination

Born five years ago in South Korea, “4B” is a feminist movement which advocates a life without men, to protect ourselves from sexist violence and discrimination. The abbreviation “4B” comes from four words that all begin with “bi”, which means “no” in Korean: “bihon” and “bisekseu” for the refusal of marriage and heterosexual relationships, “biyeonae” for the refusal of the search for a romantic partner, and “buchulsan” for the refusal of reproductive duty.

In the hours following the announcement of the results, American women began to relay such ideas on the Internet, “in a gesture of defiance and self-protection”, confirms the New York Timeswho considers, however, that it is still “too early to know to what extent such a position could become popular”.

“It’s time to close your uterus to men”

Fearing for their rights, many Internet users wanted to express themselves on social networks. “It’s time to close your uterus to men. This election proves more than ever that they hate us and proudly hate us. Don’t reward them,” one user wrote on X. “We need to start reducing the population and the economy. There is no country to rule if birth rates start to decline. Don’t give in until they start listening,” another user also explained.

This enthusiasm quickly provoked a reaction from Trump supporters, who did not hesitate to mock this movement. “Gentlemen, after Trump won, all the ugly women created the 4B movement to punish you. Send Donald Trump a thank you” or “Only beautiful conservative women should reproduce”, supporters of the Republican candidate wrote on social networks.
