Winner of Westerlo, Charleroi breathes a sigh of relief and leaves the red zone (1-0)

Titraoui escaped the worst

Charleroi came close to spending almost the entire match outnumbered. After three minutes of play, Titraoui, late for a duel, let his foot drag on Haspolat’s ankle. Mr. Put, referee of the match, chose to give the yellow card even though exclusion would perhaps not have been too severe a sanction. The first opportunity was Carolo with good work from Bernier and a finish from Dabbagh who found the wrong side of the net.

In the process, Titraoui, on the second ball, sent a beautiful delivery which passed just above Van Langendonck’s goal. And definitely, things were not going well for the Zebras, who had been convincing so far with a deflected shot that came within a hair’s breadth of the goal. The appearance was the same as in recent weeks with an interesting game combined with a cruel lack of ideas in the finishing area.

In the third quarter of an hour, it was a repeat with some great local action again but it still lacked efficiency to open the scoring. For his part, Westerlo did not create any chances and was even disappointing during this first act where he fired once on goal. Parity score therefore at half-time.

Heymans for deliverance

Coming out of the locker room, Rik De Mil made a change as Guiagon replaced Mbenza. A few minutes after the start of the second half, Bernier had the ball for 1-0 thanks to a good serve from Heymans but Onhaytois missed his conclusion and allowed the Campinois goalkeeper to touch the ball.

Westerlo responded tit for tat with a subtle lob from Frigan brilliantly repelled by Delavallée. Just after the hour mark, Dabbagh, served on the left, headed towards goal but, symbol of this start to the season, the finish was completely missed on a three-star opportunity.

But after trying, luck finally changed for Sporting. An excellent low serve found Heymans who regained his feelings from the start of the season to open the scoring (1-0, 66th). After this first goal, both teams had chances to score but the conclusion, especially from Stulic, was lacking.

Charleroi held on and therefore validated a victory which does a lot of good. Indeed, the RCSC leaves the red zone and even finds itself in 9th place in this ever-contested championship.
