Discover our tops and our flops following Monaco's victory against Strasbourg (1-3) this Saturday on the pitch at the Stade de la Meinau on the occasion of the 11th day of Ligue 1.
The tops
Ben Seghir reassures Monaco
Eliesse Ben Seghir removed quite a thorn in Monaco’s side. After obtaining the penalty, he did not hesitate to convert it before seizing his chance to give color to his team at the very end of the match. Two goals from two shots on target which gave more flair to a successful performance, particularly in a second period during which he played more in the middle, a position which allowed him to better express all his qualities.
G.Doué involved
Beyond the opening goal, Guéla Doué was able to respond in the system put in place by Liam Rosenior during this meeting against Monaco. The Ivorian defender was able to go beyond his role to endanger the Monegasque defense, without forgetting his defensive tasks. He will have known how to get the ball at the feet of ASM and cut the passing lines. But this was not enough to avoid a defeat for Strasbourg during this reception of the Principality club.
Ilenikhena, decisive entry
It’s a winning choice from Adi Hütter. While Breel Embolo was in check against Djordje Petrovic during the first period, the Swiss striker gave way to George Ilenikhena from the restart. The young striker then imposed a whole new level of pressure on the Strasbourg rearguard. Involved in all the decisive actions of his team, he will have changed the fate of this meeting, to the great happiness of the Monegasques.
The flops
Moreira, an error with serious consequences
Strasbourg held off for a long time in the second half but it didn't take much for the situation to change. Diego Moreira's hand at the start of the last quarter of an hour was this pivotal moment. This error allowed Eliesse Ben Seghir to revive Monaco, who then made the difference to snatch a victory which took a long time to emerge in a tight encounter.
Caio Henrique was not there
Caio Henrique had a complicated first period and quickly paid for it. The Brazilian defender was borrowed on his left side, with a lack of aggressiveness which did not help his team to exist during the first 45 minutes. The sanction was irrevocable with his replacement at half-time by Christian Mawissa, whose impact was more significant.
Nanasi not in sight
It wasn't Sebastian Nanasi's day. The Swedish striker, placed on the left of the Strasbourg attack, was unable to put himself to his advantage with any strikes throughout the 84 minutes spent on the pitch. Having few balls to play, he was unable to create the necessary spaces in the Monegasque defense before giving way for the end of the match to Caleb Wiley, not without showing his frustration.
