Dua Lipa cancels concert due to ‘safety issues with staging’

The pop star said she was “heartbroken” to have to cancel the show

Dua Lipa has pulled the plug on her Jakarta performance on the ‘Radical Optimism’ tour due to “unforeseen safety and logistical issues” with the stage, as announced by organisers. The 29 year old chart-topper expressed her sorrow on social media, saying: “I am here in your amazing country and ready to perform, but I am gutted to share that it has been determined that it is not safe for the performance to carry on due to safety issues with the staging.”

She added: “I was so looking forward to this night, and it truly pains me that we cannot perform for you all, especially after such a long time since my last performance in Jakarta.” Declaring her affection for fans, Dua Lipa shared her anticipation of returning to the stage: “I love you all and truly can’t wait to be back together in the same room with you singing and dancing our hearts out as soon as possible.”

In a joint statement via Lipa’s website, organisers TEM Presents and PK Entertainment have stated the show’s cancellation was “due to unforeseen safety and logistical issues”. They added although Dua Lipa and her team were fully prepared to perform and worked diligently to fix critical production problems related to the stage provided by Mata Elang Productions, safety concerns prevented the performance from proceeding, saying, “This very difficult decision to cancel was made with the utmost care and consideration for the safety of both the audiences and artist.”

“…TEM Presents and PK Entertainment sincerely apologise to all fans who were looking forward to the show for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation.”

The singer, who scooped up the Brit Award for best pop act in March, has achieved two number one albums with her second and third studio efforts, Future Nostalgia and Radical Optimism – which she’s currently taking on tour. Her recent performance at Glastonbury Festival earlier this year saw her belting out a string of hits on the Pyramid Stage, including bangers like These Walls, Break My Heart, Hallucinate, Electricity, Physical and Don’t Start Now.

Throughout her career, she’s notched up four number one tracks, featuring collaborations such as Cold Heart with Sir Elton John, One Kiss with Calvin Harris, and the catchy Dance The Night from the Barbie film soundtrack.
