Israelis launched a massive campaign on social media against Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech, yesterday, Friday, while a player in the Maccabi Tel Aviv team called on the European Union to punish Ziyech.
For its part, the British newspaper “The Telegraph” described the Moroccan star’s comments as sarcasm towards fans of the Israeli team injured in Thursday night’s events.
Israeli exploitation
Maccabi Tel Aviv fans caused confrontations in Amsterdam, after they carried out provocative actions by lowering the Palestinian flag and tearing it up in the streets of the Dutch capital, and chanting anti-Arab slogans.
In turn, the Dutch police arrested dozens following the violence that broke out after the end of the Football match between the Israeli team and Ajax Amsterdam in the European Club League.
Israel finds its purpose in the incident at times by claiming that it was motivated by the rising “hatred and anti-Semitism” against Jews in Europe, and at other times by claiming that it came as a result of anti-Tel Aviv demonstrations.
Attack on Ziyech
Ziyash posted a video clip of the events via the “Story” feature on the social networking site “Instagram,” and commented on it: “When it doesn’t come to women and children, you see them running away, and Palestine will remain free,” in reference to the fans of the Israeli team.
Maccabi Tel Aviv player Eran Zahavi, who participated in Thursday’s match, attacked Ziyech and described him as a “supporter of terrorism,” calling on the European Union to punish the Moroccan player.
The European Football Association (UEFA) had issued a statement in which it strongly condemned “the violence and strongly condemns the violence that occurred after Thursday’s match.”
Israel and its allies were quick to embrace the issue as a wave of “anti-Semitism” affecting Israelis around the world. The head of the occupying state, Isaac Herzog, went further, describing what happened as an “anti-Semitic massacre,” likening it to the attack of October 7, 2023.
Local media reported that a number of wounded were being transported to Amsterdam hospitals, while the Israeli army announced its readiness to deploy an immediate “rescue mission” in coordination with the Dutch government. The army statement said: “The mission will be deployed using cargo aircraft and will include medical and rescue teams.”
Ziyash: Palestine is free
A large number of activists rose up to defend Ziyech, whose name topped the social media sites. He is a former player for the Dutch team Ajax, which won the match 5-0, and praised his continued stances in support of the Palestinian cause.
Ziyech had criticized normalization with Israel last September, and wrote on the Instagram platform: “Let us make one thing clear: Damn Israel and every other country that supports this type of behavior.”
In a second tweet, Ziyash attacked his country’s government and the governments of countries that support Israel, saying in another post: “My country is also targeted by my previous post, and all the supporting countries are concerned with my post. Shame on you, enough is enough.” Ziyash ended his statements in the post by saying: “To my Moroccan brothers and sisters, make your voices heard as much as possible. I am with you, Palestine is free.”
It is noteworthy that Ziyech played 107 matches with Chelsea, and is currently playing with the Turkish club Galatasaray. He was not recently invited to represent the national team, due to playing only 6 matches with Galatasaray and his lack of readiness.
