Ramona Fattini sits in the dressing room and has her make-up done. She plays Pechmarie in the play “Frau Holle”, which she brings to the stage as the new director of the Zurich Fairy Tale Stage.
Decades earlier, acting legend Ines Torelli also played this role here. “Of course that appealed to me,” says Ramona Fattini.
As an actress, singer and presenter, Ines Torelli has influenced entire generations. She became particularly famous for recording Kasperli cassettes with Jörg Schneider. From 1989, Torelli also ran the Zurich Fairy Tale Theater.
Handover of the scepter after thirty years
In 1994, the legendary actor Erich Vock took over the theater with his partner Hubert Spiess. Many people may know Vock primarily from television appearances such as the sitcom “Done Funny”. The duo performed pieces like “Sleeping Beauty” and “The Robber Hotzenplotz” on the Zurich Fairy Tale Stage, the children’s eyes sparkled.
But this spring the duo called it quits after thirty years. Shortly before the last appearance in “his” theater, Vock was emotional in an SRF interview: “I feel like I’ve spent half my life here. The farewell is of course associated with many memories.” But he is also happy to be able to hand over the fairy tale stage.
I try not to put too much pressure on myself.”
So now Ramona Fattini is in charge. The 35-year-old seems very happy about it. But she also says: “Of course I’m following in huge footsteps. I’m already tense and nervous.”
Shake off the pressure
In fact, the young actress has not inherited an easy legacy. Under their predecessors Vock and Spiess, the number of visitors doubled to over 20,000 people per year. The fairytale stage is also a popular family destination beyond Zurich.
The new theater director wants to maintain this level. Continuing the fairy tale stage in the spirit of her predecessors is important to her: “But I try not to put too much pressure on myself.” She doesn’t have to do everything exactly the same as the duo before her.
“Okay, if you want to talk to me…”
Ramona Fattini has known the Zurich fairy tale stage for a long time: in 2015 she worked as an assistant director at Vock und Spiess, after which she appeared on stage as an actress.
The duo finally announced their retirement in 2022. “Back then I never even dreamed that I could be her successor,” Fattini says today with a laugh: “But at some point Erich said: “Yeah, if you want to talk to me…”
On stage with a fever
For Erich Vock, the new director is an ideal choice. She has visions, is young and a good actress, he said in an older SRF interview. “And Ramona is passionate about the theater.”
Vock and Spiess have also distinguished themselves through their great commitment. “We were in the theater in every condition – with a fever or even desperately sad due to strokes of fate. But that’s part of the job.”
Ramona Fattini was fascinated by fairy tales as a child. The parents always had to watch their performances at home. “When I was eight years old, I played in my first fairy tale.”
Numerous appearances have followed to this day, for example as the miller’s daughter in the fairy tale “Rumpelstiltskin” or as Princess Maja from “The Frog Prince”. The passion for stories like this has always accompanied her. “Probably because in the end good wins – which is what I would also like for this world.”
