After the match, which his team ultimately lost 3-1 despite Mason Greenwood saving some pride with a penalty, Roberto De Zerbi was candid. He first held a lengthy discussion with his players in the dressing room before addressing the press: “Don’t talk to me about finishing second, third, or fourth. I come here to give something, to transmit a vision; I live for something that transcends Football. If I am the problem, I must leave. Money doesn’t matter to me. What I seek is the gratification of my work.”
The Marseille coach was evidently affected by his team’s performance, which was light-years away from their display against Nantes just last Sunday. “I take responsibility for what happened. When I say the one responsible is me, it’s because I genuinely feel responsible. I have no intention of shifting the blame onto others,” he continued.
