A new trilogy, entrusted to the producer of X-Men, in preparation

The fans are already in turmoil… Five years after the release of Episode IX, L’Ascension de Skywalker, a new Star Wars trilogy is in preparation, indicates the specialized American media Deadline. Lucasfilm has entrusted the screenplay and production of this new trilogy to Simon Kinberg, the originator of the franchise. X-Men.

The producer, who will be accompanied by Kathleen Kennedy, director of Lucasfilm, has already worked on the Star Wars saga. He co-created the animated series Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018), which was nominated for an Emmy Award, and he was hired as a consultant on The Force Awakens in 2015.

“The start of a new saga with new characters”

It is still unknown whether these three films will be episodes X, XI and XII of the Skywalker saga. According to the Variety site, this new trilogy would rather mark “the beginning of a new saga with new characters, after L’Ascension de Skywalker concluded the nine-chapter “Skywalker Saga” in 2019.”

This project joins the long list of Star Wars projects planned by Disney and Lucasfilm, including The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and the much awaited Skeleton Crew.

Fans will have to be patient, however, since Simon Kinberg is said to be “at the very beginning of development” of this trilogy, which therefore does not yet have a release date. In the meantime, they can console themselves with the cinema release of the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu by Jon Favreau, scheduled for May 20, 2026.
