A handshake, polite smiles, and an American president open to discussion. During his last term as President of the United States, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin often displayed a certain closeness. But what will their relationship look like almost three years after the start of the war in Ukraine? The Republican businessman, re-elected to the White House, said he would soon contact his Russian counterpart.

In Russia, state television closely followed the outcome of the US elections. Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on Thursday, November 7, praising the latter's attitude during the assassination attempt from which he escaped last July. “He behaved very dignified and courageous, like a man”estimated the head of the Kremlin, who wishes “[reprendre] contact and discussions”. Among the hot topics, the two men will have to address the Ukrainian issue. Donald Trump made the end of the war in Ukraine an electoral argument during his campaign. He would have never stopped communicating with Vladimir Putin.
