ADO Den Haag keeps the three points at home

ADO Den Haag has managed to add three points again. Vitesse was defeated 2-0 in an attractive Bingoal Stadium. Van Mieghem was accurate just before half-time. Deep into the second half, it was Vlak who provided the final score in the eighty-eighth minute.

In the home match against Vitesse, ADO Den Haag played with the same eleven players as last week in the away match against FC Eindhoven. Schalk was in the selection this time, but not yet fit enough to start and therefore started on the bench.

After just a few minutes, Bonis had the first big chance of the match, but the striker did not hit the ball properly and was unable to get a shot on target. The opening fifteen minutes were otherwise quiet, without any significant opportunities on either side. After twenty minutes, ADO Den Haag entered Vitesse’s penalty area. A promising attack led to a cross from Van der Sloot, but he lacked the precision to reach Van Mieghem. Five minutes later the home team seemed to be able to take the lead. Van Mieghem gave a perfect high cross towards the free-standing Lourens, but the Zeeland attacker just failed to hit the ball with his head. Vitesse was only able to score a goal attempt after thirty minutes. Midfielder Yegoian tried from distance, but his shot went over Nikiema’s goal.

When the first half seemed to be heading for a goalless end, ADO Den Haag still struck. After a well-constructed attack, Van Mieghem received the ball from Kilo and came face-to-face with goalkeeper Bramel. The winger finished coolly and gave ADO Den Haag a 1-0 lead! Vitesse tried to force the equalizer before half time with a shot from Yegoian from outside the penalty area, but this attempt was an easy prey for goalkeeper Nikiema.

At the start of the second half, the home team remained unchanged, while Vitesse made one substitution. The away team immediately put pressure and could have leveled within five minutes. However, Tielemans saw his diagonal shot disappear wide of the goal. Shortly afterwards, another dangerous attack from the visitors followed, but the Hague closing post duly saved. The home team visibly struggled in the first ten minutes of the second half and were fortunate that Vitesse had not yet drawn level.

After fifteen minutes of play, head coach Darije Kalezic decided to make his first substitution; Schalk came in for Lourens. Just like in the first half, little actually happened in the phase that followed, but it was the home team that had the dominance of the game. With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Kalezic also sent Maasland into the field to give the front line new energy. Vitesse appeared in front of the Hague goal a few more times, but was unable to get past goalkeeper Nikiema. While Nikiema kept the goal clean on one side, it was Vlak on the other side who provided the liberating 2-0. A shot from the edge of the box was out of the reach of keeper Bramel.

After the international break, ADO Den Haag will play two away games visiting Jong AZ and Helmond Sport. ADO Den Haag’s next home match is against FC Emmen on Friday, November 29.
