More information: The mysterious Prince Emmanuel of Belgium turns 18: from struggling with dyslexia to studying at a special school.
Last summer, Prince Emmanuel of Belgium (19), the third son of King Philippe (64) and Queen Mathilde (51), completed his International Baccalaureate at the International School of Brussels. The Royal House then announced that the young prince would follow in the footsteps of his sister, Elisabeth (23), and leave his country for a while. In his case – as indicated by the Belgian monarchy’s website – he would pursue linguistic and sports training at an academy abroad.
At that time, the exact location was not disclosed, as the Crown stated that the Prince wanted to continue his studies “in anonymity and in his private sphere.” Information about the country chosen by the son of the Kings of Belgium emerged this Friday, November 8. Local media Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Emmanuel is currently at a football academy in Spain, “where talent is trained to become professional First Division footballers.”

The football program of the mentioned academy lasts for 10 months, according to its website. They describe themselves as “the best in Europe with professional coaches.” Their training focuses on physical, technical, and tactical training to help aspiring players become professionals.
“We will ensure that you feel at home, with comfortable rooms, meals, transport to and from training, and everything you need,” explains the academy. “We will be at your disposal at all times to offer you psychological support and advice,” they add.
Regarding the sports plan, they emphasize: “You will train with our professional coaches in the mornings. In the afternoons, you will train with the team you have joined. On weekends, you will compete in matches of the Spanish League.”

Prince Emmanuel is a sports enthusiast. The Belgian Royal House, on its website, states that he “loves nature and enjoys skiing, tennis, windsurfing, and running, in addition to playing the saxophone.” Although football is not their focus, there have been hints in the past of his interest in the sport. Alongside his father, King Philippe of Belgium, he visited the training center of his country’s national team. Last June, he also attended a few matches in the Eurocup contested by the renowned Red Devils.
During his stay in Spain, Prince Emmanuel would also be learning Spanish, as reported by the Belgian Royal House, which stated that his experience abroad includes language training. In addition to Spanish, the third son of the Kings of Belgium is fluent in French, Dutch, and English.
Prince Emmanuel arrived in Spain after completing his International Baccalaureate, which he studied in English at the International School of Brussels. He entered this school in 2020, eight years after beginning treatment for his dyslexia.

In 2012, when the Prince was seven years old, he discovered that he suffered from this learning disorder affecting reading and writing. At that time, the Royal House sent a press release to the Belgian agency in an attempt to prevent the news from becoming a scandal. The Kings announced that their son would stop attending Sint-Jan Berchmans school, where his siblings were, to be educated at the Eureka school in Kessel-Lo, an institution for children aged seven to 14 who struggle with structural learning difficulties, such as dyslexia.
Aside from his passion for sports, Prince Emmanuel has a particular interest in helping those in need. He has frequently volunteered to assist the most vulnerable. During the coronavirus pandemic, he maintained several phone contacts with isolated elderly individuals in care homes to offer support. Moreover, he has been involved in a youth movement for several years.
