For those who have not yet taken the plunge, you will really have to bring out the winter coats. Because if the gray weather should dissipate next week, temperatures are likely to drop from Wednesday November 13, 2024.

After a moderate week in terms of bad weather, a depression, which should touch in the middle of next week, risks causing cooling and dry winds. We'll explain it to you.

Drop in temperatures

Good news, the fog will (finally) clear up in the middle of next week. Because ” a cold drop will descend on Central Europe, causing a draft of cold, drier airin the north-east of the country,” explains Guillaume Séchet, meteorologist, actu.fr.

The phenomenon should approach France sufficiently to (finally) chase away the anticyclone responsible for the fog banks, which has covered the entire northern part of France for several days.

This will cause “instability, showers and colder air”, according to the founder of Météo-Villes. And, therefore, a drop in temperatures coupled with the appearance of winds.

But this cooling remains uncertain. “It depends on whether this cold drop really descends on France,” underlines the meteorologist.

What is a cold drop?

It is this phenomenon, the cold drop, which causes these weather changes. “A cold drop is a pocket of very cold air located at an altitude of more than 5,000 m,” specifies Météo France on its website.

When the polar jet stream deforms, it happens that a pocket, called a cold drop, breaks away from the circulation associated with the polar jet stream to descend to our latitudes.

But the phenomenon remains complicated to anticipate. “The trajectory of these isolated systems, which control general circulation, is sometimes difficult to understand by weather models, which makes forecasting sensitive weather difficult,” assures Météo France.
