In Spain, cars swept away and buried under a bridge after heavy rains

Torrential rains which poured over part of the Pyrénées-Orientales last night, also affected part of the Catalonia, in Spain. Just a few days after deadly floods in the Valencia region, heavy rainfall swept through the famous and charming seaside resort of Cadaqués

Dozens of cars swept away

The images are particularly striking. But fortunately, “no one was injured or trapped”reassure the Bombers, the Catalan firefighters. In Cadaqués, just an hour from Perpignan, the small port town has experienced a very violent stormduring the night from Thursday to Friday:

As on the coast of the Pyrénées-Orientales, between Saint-Cyprien and Torreilles, passing through Canet-en-Roussillon in particular, Cadaqués and its surroundings recorded between 100mm and 150mm of precipitation in just a few hours. An intensity which caused significant runoff in the streets of the town.

More than 100mm of rain in a few hours

So much so that the stream that flows into the Mediterranean Sea has reached a colossal flow, up to taking around thirty cars, parked nearby, emergency services indicate:

Impressive damage

The vehicles were found crowded under a bridge and did not reach the sea. In the early morning of this Friday, the damage was impressive:

Further rain is expected on the coast of the Pyrénées-Orientales and in Spain in the coming hours. An additional 20 to 40mm could fall in the region, according to the latest weather forecasts.
