An extraordinary life. A tumultuous relationship, which nevertheless allowed him to get back on track. But what was his relationship with Jane Birkin, the ex-partner of the man who changed his life? On Thursday November 7, the day of the release of his autobiography, Step by step in the nightpublished by XO, Bambou gave an interview to Parisianduring which she exposed their closeness: “For her last New Year, it was just the two of us. We've always been in touch.”

As Caroline Paulus – her real name – explains: “It was the Gainsbourg clan…” A clan whose bonds have never weakened, despite disputes that could be violent. In this same interview, Bambou also spoke of his links with the daughter of the deceased singer, Charlotte Gainsbourg: “I knew her when she was 9 years old. […] I lived with her the childhood that I did not have. We both have a very strong relationship.” A tender affection confirmed by the main interested party, who had confided in the pages of Marie-Claire about this “happy childhood life” spent alongside his father's last companion, made up of simple joys, like eating candy or “watch a movie on your big screen”

Serge Gainsbourg: what did Jane Birkin think of her new partner, Bambou?

In his diary, Munkey Diariespublished by Fayard in 2018, Jane Birkin confided all the good things she thought of Serge Gainsbourg's new companion. Still very attached to the one who meant so much to her, although she started her life again after their separation, the late singer wrote: “Bambou was the best person for me. She prevented Serge from ruining himself, from ruining himself, she gave him a child, a new family, she was young, beautiful, and she tolerated the way he spoke to him. “ Jane Birkin was also delighted that Bambou agreed to give her a place alongside her companion. Even after the singer's death, the two women remained very close, united by the same wish to honor the memory of Serge Gainsbourg.
