Canoeing: Jean-Yves Prigent in pre-trial detention after partially admitting to rape

Jean-Yves Prigent confessed. Placed in police custody Tuesday morning as part of an investigation into rape, this figure of French canoeing was interviewed by investigators following the revelations and the complaint, in September 2024, of a former kayaker having was coached by the Breton coach. Two days later, the public prosecutor's office announced this Thursday that Jean-Yves Prigent had “partially admitted the facts of rape, but contests the facts of sexual assault and harassment”.

The acts of sexual assault date back to a period between 2005 and 2008. “They are mentioned by a young man whom Jean-Yves Prigent had supervised when he was a minor,” specifies the prosecution. Concerning the acts of sexual harassment, they were mentioned by a young woman, denouncing repeated comments made by the person concerned with sexual connotations against her. »

Already sentenced on July 12, 2024 to four years of imprisonment, one year with an electronic bracelet and the other three with suspended probation, for having engaged, during two successive nights in March 2023, in touching two kayakers, Jean -Yves Prigent allegedly committed the rapes on one of the two victims in the first procedure. These would have taken place between 2023 and 2024, “in particular during sports competitions taking place outside the department, in Prague and Bourg-Saint-Maurice”.

Referred to court this Thursday, Jean-Yves Prigent was presented to an investigating judge, who indicted him. He was then placed in pre-trial detention by the liberty and detention judge.
