Julien Charles leaves the Basque-Béarnais department for Seine-Saint-Denis where he will serve as prefect. After having been the tenant of the Villa Saint-Hélène, in Pau, for two years, his transfer was announced during the Council of Ministers on Wednesday November 6. Jean-Marie Girier will succeed him. Aged 40, the new prefect began his career in the prefectural administration late in life.
In 2020, he was appointed prefect of Territoire-de-Belfort for the first time. Before arriving in this two-headed department, he passed through Vienne. His previous activities have been linked to institutions. Arriving in politics through the Socialist Party, he joined Emmanuel Macron and became his campaign director for the 2017 presidential election. Jean-Marie Girier was chief of staff to Gérard Collomb (2017-2018) when he was minister of 'Interior, then that of the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand, in 2018.
With a master's degree in research in information and communication sciences, he has worked in several communities, notably as chief of staff or chief of staff.
