Unlike the year 2023, Val-d'Isère is not snowy at all in this month of November 2024. The contrast between the two seasons is impressive in the Savoyard resort located 3 hours from Lyon.

Webcam images taken this Wednesday, November 6 at an altitude of 2,780 meters show rocky terrain with only a few snow-capped glacier peaks in the distance. This completely contrasts with the white landscape immortalized at this time last year.

Snow in October but “almost everything has melted”

The resort, recently voted favorite of the Lyonnais and made popular by Michel Blanc's legendary scene in “Bronzés sont du ski”, is not yet covered in snow even though the winter season is coming soon. No worries, though.

The very low level of snow in the resorts of the Alps is due to the very mild climate of recent weeks. “We had quite a bit of snow at the beginning of Octoberabove 2500 m. Almost everything has melted,” noted Guillaume Séchet to the editorial staff ofnews Grenoble.

Should we expect a winter season with little snow in the Alps? “The snow level in October is not not a marker for the rest of the season. It starts to become important from mid-November,” explained the meteorologist.

According to Météo-France forecasts, snow could fall from 1,850 m above sea level between Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 November in Val-d'Isère.
