her ex-partner sentenced to prison for domestic violence

Iris Mittenaere went to the criminal court this Wednesday, November 6, to attend the closed-door trial of her former companion, Bruno Pelat. This morning, the defendant was sentenced to one year in prison, six months of which were suspended.

Accused of domestic violence, Bruno Pelat, the former companion of Iris Mittenaere, has just been tried this Thursday, November 7 at the Paris Criminal Court. The day before, the former Miss and Miss Universe 2016 went to the courthouse in the company of her mother and her little sister. Faced with the emotion of the victim and at the request of her lawyer, the court granted a closed trial.

Maître Émilie Bruézière (Iris Mittenaere's lawyer) and the Paris prosecutor's office announced this Thursday, November 7, the conviction of Bruno Pelat for domestic violence, amounting to one year in prison, including six months suspended. This sentence should take place at home under an electronic bracelet coupled with an obligation of care. The accused is also prohibited from approaching the 31-year-old young woman and her home.

The incriminated events took place on the evening of September 24, in Paris. Bruno Pelat allegedly hit Iris Mittenaere and slammed her head against a wall before threatening to make her lose her professional contracts. The next day, the former Miss filed a complaint at the police station.

Bruno Pelat, a recidivist

After the complaint filed by Iris Mittenaere on September 25, Bruno Pelat was placed in police custody and an investigation was quickly opened by the Paris prosecutor's office. Two days later, on September 27, the defendant should have been tried in immediate appearance. Faced with this dramatic situation, the victim requested a postponement of the trial for “psychological incapacity”.

This is not the first time that Bruno Pelat has been worried by the justice system in a context of violence. In June 2022, he was convicted following violence and death threats against his father. A year later, again, he was convicted of domestic violence against a former partner.
