Iris Mittenaere's ex-companion sentenced to six months in prison for domestic violence

Bruno Pelat was tried this Wednesday, November 6 by the criminal court for violence against his ex-partner, Miss 2016 Iris Mittenaere. The hearing was held behind closed doors.

The former companion of Iris Mittenaere was sentenced Wednesday by the Paris criminal court to 12 months in prison, including six months in prison, BFMTV.com learned from consistent sources confirming information from CNews. Bruno Pelat was on trial for violence against Miss France and Miss Universe 2016.

The 22-year-old young man was to be tried on September 27, in immediate appearance. But Iris Mittenaere's lawyer had requested an adjournment so that her client could be present.

Arriving, visibly very moved, on Wednesday in the room accompanied by her family and her lawyer, the young woman sat in the front row, curled up against a wall. A request for a closed session was made by the victim before the court. Request granted so that “speech can be free”, in the words of the president.

Electronic bracelet

On September 24, Iris Mittenaere reported the facts on the digital platform to support victims. Placed in police custody immediately, Bruno Pelat, son of an influential real estate business manager, himself working in the family business, was accused of having violated the young woman, of having notably hitting her head against a wall, and threatening to “blow up” her contracts.

The court found Bruno Pelat guilty of these acts, sentencing him to 12 months in prison, including six months in prison. A sentence accompanied by a two-year probationary suspension prohibiting him, in particular, from coming into contact with Iris Mittenaere. The young man's conviction is in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution, which recalled the defendant's “usual recourse” to violence.

Bruno Pelat was sentenced in 2022 for violence and threats against his father in 2022 and for violence against another partner in April 2023. His probationary suspension pronounced during these previous convictions was revoked by the Paris criminal court, transforming his three-month prison sentence suspended in prison. Bruno Pelat will have to serve this sentence, in addition to the six months to which he was sentenced on Wednesday, at home under an electronic bracelet.
