While Donald Trump savors his resounding victory this Wednesday in West Palm Beach and asks her to say a few words in front of MAGA supporters, she politely declines. It's his sidekick, Chris LaCivita, who speaks for both of them. The return of the businessman to the White House therefore did not change the discreet Susie Wiles, the Republican's campaign director.
Would he have won without her? Impossible to know, but the American media agree that the “Ice Lady”, as she is nicknamed, greatly contributed to the thunderous comeback of her champion. By taking control behind the scenes in recent months, she has, in a style the opposite of the Trump clan, fully fulfilled her mission to beat Kamala Harris.
The Republican family
In the rare photos we have of her, lurking in the shadow of the New York tribune, Susie Wiles, 67, has the false air of Dolores Umbridge, the professor who makes all the students tremble in Harry Potter. However, Susan Wiles' “home” is not Hogwarts, but the Republican Party: she has been there for forty years.
Originally from New Jersey and daughter of a former NFL player, Susie Wiles cut her teeth in politics during Ronald Reagan's campaign in 1980. We then find her in Florida with John Delaney in the 1990s, then with John Peyton in Jacksonville. She joined the Trump galaxy for the 2016 campaign, still via Florida. And it was again in Florida that in 2018, she helped Ron De Santis for the post of governor.
Soon at the White House?
For 2024, again, Wiles is back with Donald Trump. The Republican has not changed his recipe but it gives him a look that is undoubtedly different from the other baroque personalities who make up the billionaire's entourage. Just look at her account on X: Susie Wiles almost never posts, has less than 20,000 subscribers.
Our file on the 2024 American presidential election
The Hilla journalist specializing in American politics, says of her that she is “the most powerful Republican you don't know.” This has probably never been more true. Will Susan Wiles have to reveal herself a little more in the coming months? She is expected to take over the prestigious position of chief of staff to the President of the United States.
