The record champions returned to the Champions League with a narrow 1-0 home win against Benfica Lisbon. After many attempts on the offensive, Jamal Musiala once again provided relief. On defense, Min-Jae Kim excelled with a flawless performance. The FCB stars in the individual assessment.
Manuel Neuer: Since the guests from Portugal didn’t get a single significant shot at Bayern’s goal, the captain was unable to make an impact on the line. At least in the build-up to the game, the veteran was always involved and acted very confidently. (Grade: 2.5)
Alphonso Davies: Like the entire defense chain, very stable defensively. He tried to use the large rooms on the left side. However, his offensive advances were a little less dangerous than in previous games. (Grade: 3)
Dayot Upamecano: After the botched performance in the premier class against FC Barcelona, the Frenchman also showed a significant improvement in performance. But he was hardly put in any significant distress by the harmless Benfica offensive. (Grade: 2.5)
Min-Jae Kim: There was no getting past the South Korean that evening. Stopped the vast majority of Portuguese attacks early on. His uncompromising duels nipped many attacks in the bud and gave the FCB defense the stability it needed – a top performance from the central defender! (Grade: 1.5)
Konrad Laimer: On the right side of the defense, the Austrian was once again given confidence. Confirmed his starting eleven nomination with a decent performance. Defensively he was hardly challenged. Only on offense was there a lack of precision in the final pass in some promising situations. (Grade: 3)
Joshua Kimmich: As the organizer in midfield, the vast majority of attacks came through the DFB captain, which is why he also had most of the ball actions in the game. He also finished in some promising situations, but lacked the coolness. (Grade: 2)

Harry Kane: Often dropped deeper because the space in the center against the defense was very narrow. In the few penalty area actions he had, he remained too harmless in front of the goal. At least he managed an assist for Musiala’s goal. (Grade: 2.5)
