What a moment during Club Brugge – Aston Villa.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez passed the ball to his defender Mings, but he thought he had to get the game going again and simply took the ball in his hands.
The referee didn’t hesitate and immediately pointed to the spot: handball and penalty.
At first no one in the stadium seemed to really realize what had happened, but the commotion soon gave way to frenzy of joy in the Jan Breydel Stadium. Only the face and facial expression of goalkeeper Martinez were left full of confusion.
“How stupid can you be? Wow… You don’t want to experience this at Champions League level. What an incredibly stupid mistake by Aston Villa,” our commentator Tom Boudeweel also saw.
Hans Vanaken took full advantage of the moment and outwitted the penalty specialist with a precise ball: 1-0.
