As per tradition, the losing party in a presidential election makes a speech in which they concede defeat to the other candidate. A concession speech is not legally required but is considered a good-faith gesture.
After losing the 2020 election, Donald Trump did not make a traditional concession speech.
Months later, in a statement on January 7, 2021, he did say there would be a transition of power on January 20.
On Tuesday night, when it became clear that Trump was on a path to victory, Kamala Harris canceled her speech at her alma mater, Howard University in Washington D.C.

A source close to the University has told Newsweek that Harris will make her speech at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Shortly after midnight this morning, campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond confirmed that Harris would instead return to Howard University on Wednesday to speak to supporters and address the nation.
“You won’t hear from the vice president tonight,” said Richmond. “But you will hear from her tomorrow [November 6]because she will be back here tomorrow to address not only the HU family, not only to address her supporters, but to address the nation.”
Newsweek has emailed the Harris campaign for comment.

Speaking from Florida at 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning, Trump delivered a victory speech in which he spoke of the “greatest political movement of all time.”
“We’re going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders, we’re going to fix everything about our country and we’ve made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that, ” he declared.
Trump also said his victory would usher in a “golden age of America.”
