The draw for the Coupe de had a nice surprise in store for US Avranches. Appearing, like Saint-Lô (N3), among the 22 candidates for a trip to a team from the overseas departments and territories, the South Manche club had the privilege of knowing its opponent from Tuesday October 29. The draw for mainland clubs facing overseas clubs took place on the eve of the main draw.

Visit Polynesia

It is AS Dragon de Papeete, a club from Tahiti, which will host the team coached by Michel Audrain on its grounds at the Pater stadium on Saturday November 16 at 2 p.m. (local time), which will take off on Sunday November 10 towards French Polynesia, the day after the championship match against Châteaubriant. For USA followers, AS Dragon is not an unknown name since the two teams had already met in the 7th round of the event during the 2016-2017 season.

On November 12, 2016, the players coached by Damien Ott and led by their captain Charles Boateng, performed in front of the 600 spectators gathered that day at the René-Fenouillère stadium, winning 9-0. They then continued their epic in the event until the quarter-final and the unforgettable meeting against Saint-Germain (0-4) in at the Michel-d'Ornano stadium in front of 20,000 spectators and in prime time on television on France 3.

A trap match?

The Tahitians, who had not reached this stage of the competition for six years, reached the 7th round for the sixth time in their history thanks to their 4-1 victory against AS Tiare Hinano on June 1 in final of the Polynesian Cup. They will try for the first time to qualify for the 8th round, this time taking advantage of home advantage. “By playing at 2 p.m., we will be playing in humid heat,” warns Michel Audrain, who is therefore expecting a trap match.

A delegation of 23 people (16 players, three staff members and four managers) will travel to Tahiti, all costs being covered by the French Federation, organizer of the event. In the event of qualification in the 8th round, US Avranches will travel to the field of the winner of the derby between Lower N3 teams, namely Saint-Lô or Dives-Cabourg.
