Marine Tondelier denounces the “anti-L214 amendment” of Breton LR MP Corentin Le Fur

The national secretary of EELV in person, Marine Tondelier, co-signed this press release with the local group of the ecologist party of the bay of Saint-Brieuc. This means that the matter is taken seriously by environmentalists. The affair? An amendment adopted by the Assembly at the end of October, as part of the finance bill, at the initiative of Breton LR deputy Corentin Le Fur. This amendment would make it possible to withdraw tax exemption on donations to associations “guilty of intrusions into livestock farms”. The text targets, in particular, the L214 association and its shocking videos on practices on farms or slaughterhouses.

“Serious illiberal drift”

“To question whistleblowers who denounce the abuses of intensive breeding is to refuse to see animal suffering. This amendment carried by the LR deputy for Lamballe-Loudéac symbolizes the refusal to face the reality of the Breton intensive model. Like his father before him, Mr. Le Fur uses the pretext of “agri-bashing” when, as the current agricultural crisis shows, farmers are the first victims of the agri-business system which mistreats animals and pollutes our region,” criticizes the EELV press release.

The criticism does not stop there and considers that the amendment creates a “dangerous precedent”. “Fiscally sanctioning an association on the grounds that some have committed an offense opens the way to potential repressive repression. If illegal actions are carried out, it is up to Justice to do its job. “We should not place collective responsibility on unions or associations for the actions of some of their members”, at the risk of a “serious illiberal drift”. EELV then takes “the example of agricultural unions whose members have already carried out striking actions: they could ultimately be subject to the same sanction. We don’t want that,” concludes Marine Tondelier.
