How does it look?

  • Donald Trump is currently ahead. He leads in all swing states. The “New York Times” compass is also clearly trending in his direction. CNN is a bit more cautious with its forecasts.
  • As the Harris campaign team announced, the vice president is now primarily hoping for the “Blue Wall”. It consists of the three states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan in the eastern USA.
  • To win, Harris would have to win all three of these states.

Were there any surprises?

  • There have been no big surprises so far.

What does it look like in the seven swing states?

So far only one swing state has been awarded to a candidate: North Carolina goes to Donald Trump.

Georgia (16 electoral votes)

  • A third of Georgia voters are independent. Four years ago, Joe Biden clearly won this group of voters – and thus the state by a very narrow margin. According to initial evaluations by CNN, Donald Trump appears to be in favor with independent voters. This can be interpreted as an indication of a Trump victory.
  • Populous Gwinnett County is experiencing lengthy delays because of computer problems. Postal votes from a predominantly Democratic suburb could not be recorded.
  • The other counties not yet counted are also clearly Democratic-dominated areas. Four years ago at this time the situation looked similar. Nothing has been decided here yet.
  • Trump’s lead in Georgia is narrow, but Harris can hardly make up for it.

North Carolina (16 electoral votes)

  • North Carolina goes to Donald Trump.

Pennsylvania (19 Elektorenstimmen)

  • Voters had to queue here for up to four hours. This also applies to universities – where predominantly young, well-educated people cast their ballot papers. This group of voters usually votes predominantly Democratic.
  • Here too, Donald Trump seems to be doing better than expected.

Arizona (11 electoral votes)

  • Shortly before the polls closed, thousands of voters still lined up in front of the voting centers in Arizona. So that every vote can really be counted, the opening times have been extended.

Michigan (15 electoral votes)

  • It is still too early for predictions here.

Wisconsin (10 electoral votes)

  • It is still too early for predictions here.

Were there any unpleasant incidents?

  • Some bomb threats were received in Georgia. Polling stations in heavily democratic areas were primarily affected. The threats are being investigated and there have been temporary closures on several occasions. In these locations, the urns remained open a little longer. What is not known is how many voters therefore decided not to cast their vote.
  • In Nevada there are problems with the signatures of 40,000 postal votes. As CNN reports, many young voters are said to lack sufficient practice in writing their signatures consistently. According to an initial assessment, it could take days for Nevada to verify these votes.
  • In Pennsylvania, polling stations also had to be searched with sniffer dogs after bomb threats were received.
  • The FBI warns of fake videos that spread misinformation on social media in the name of the security agency.

What does the Senate race look like?

  • Here too, the race was close – but it was decided.
  • The Republicans are the majority in the Senate. If Donald Trump becomes president, he would be able to act and govern without much resistance.

What else do you need to know?

  • There have been no violent riots so far.
  • The price of Bitcoin reacted violently. Yesterday the price was still hovering below $68,000 – it is currently hovering between $73,000 and $75,000 (as of 4:30 a.m.). This is the absolute highest.
  • CNN’s John King, the presenter in front of the “magic wall”, is also an absolute highlight this year. He’s been speaking for hours without a single “um” or “oh”, babbling his mouth off, and knows the numbers and data for what feels like every one of the over 3,000 counties by heart. What the man in front of the US map shows us is art.

  • And then there was this gentleman here at CNN.

Pennsylvania is probably the most important of all states in US elections. Accordingly, the 19 electoral votes that are up for grabs in the swing state are extremely competitive – and the people who are responsible for the secure implementation of the electoral process are correspondingly tense.
