This Tuesday, November 5, American voters will slip a ballot in the name of Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. However, it is not for these candidates that they will really vote, but for the electors of their state.
Indeed, each state has a well-defined number of electors, who will then vote themselves to elect the next president of the United States. There are 538 of these electors. A candidate must therefore gather 270 votes from electors to win the election.

Electoral elections based on population size
The number of electors per state is defined according to the size of the population, with a minimum of three electors. Thus, Alaska with its 733,536 inhabitants has three major voters, while Texas, populated by 30.5 million people, has 40. Some states therefore have more importance than others, and are more courted by candidates for the White House.
Here is the distribution of the 538 electors by state:
Alabama : 9 major voters
