Donald Trump leads in the number of electoral votes and retains a lead in battleground states for the time being: “The barometer points in his direction”

“It has become quiet here among the Democrats,” says America correspondent Björn Soenens. He is at Howard University, where Harris would give a speech to the gathered supporters. Now Harris is said to have postponed that speech until tomorrow. “It doesn’t look great for Harris. Donald Trump is achieving nice victories. He is doing well where he needs to do well. The barometer is pointing in his direction at the moment.”

America specialist Thomas De Graeve already sees some optimism in the Trump camp. He is in Florida, where Trump is following the elections. “The first results are encouraging for Trump supporters. They see good results in rural areas, where they had to score well. And they also see good numbers in the battleground states, including among the black population.” That target group usually votes more Democratic.

Yet a lot can still change. There are still many votes to be counted and the battleground states are the deciding factor in this election. As long as these are not awarded to a candidate, neither Trump nor Harris can declare themselves the winner.
