The Monegasques, winners in Italy down to the wire, are certain to see at least the play-offs in February.

Sign a third victory in the Champions League to get closer to qualifying for the round of 16 or achieve a first success in the competition to avoid seeing your campaign turn sour. The respective objectives of Monaco and Bologna, this Tuesday evening at the Renato Dall'Ara stadium as part of the 4th day of the Champions League, could have consequences in the ranking. And 26 years after the last meeting of the Italian club with a French team, in this case in the semi-final of the UEFA Cup (formerly Europa League), it was the Monegasques who carried out the good operation of the day in winning by the smallest of margins (0-1).

Monaco mastered its subject in the first period

The Asemist club, by six shots, was the most prominent in the first period. However, it was the Rossoblu who created the first opportunity with a too-flying shot from Juan Miranda (9'). Behind, Breel Embolo hit the post after taking the ball with an oriented control (15'), Aleksandr Golovin saw Lukasz Skorupski fly away to repel his free kick which was heading towards the goal (34') and Maghnes Akliouche collided with the goalkeeper after drawing a shot into the area (42').

The first act was notably the scene of two rejected goals. One for Monaco on a header from Wilfried Singo from a corner (19') after a foul by the defender on the opposing goalkeeper and the other in favor of Bologna. An offside position was announced by the referee following the action concluded by Santiago Castro (40'). Vincenzo Italiano's team returned to the locker room frustrated at still not having scored in this Champions League campaign.

Kehrer against all odds

Monegasque domination gave way to a defensive second half. The Principality club saw Giovanni Fabbian put Radoslaw Majecki into action (55') and send a volley into the stands in the process. Twenty minutes from time, incoming Riccardo Orsolini's volley went wide of the goal (71'). While no one expected them, the Monegasques finally took the upper hand before the start of added time. From a corner, Thilo Kehrer, present at the far post, took advantage of a slight deviation from Breel Embolo's head to set foot and score in the empty goal. The German defender becomes Monaco's eighth different goalscorer this campaign.

Winner despite Italian domination in the second act, ASM moved from 4th to 3rd position in the standings with 10 points and took a big step towards qualification halfway through the league phase. FC Bologna was beaten on its home field while remaining on 28 receptions without losing in European competition. He moved to 30th and still hasn't scored in the competition. At the end of the month, the Italian club will host as part of the 5th day of C1. Monaco, for its part, will host Benfica.
